About Adventures In Savannah

Janet Windham Sivils
Another transplant to the Savannah area that has fallen under her spell. Janet originally hails from southeastern Alabama and has lived here for 15 years. Her specialty is our Ghost and Specter Tours. Extensive research has made her one of the most sought after guides in the evenings. Her ancestrial roots go back to what is now the Carolinas. Arriving here almost 400 years ago, her family has migrated south and west. We're glad she made her way back.

Bill Bennett
Bill is one of the "good Yankees" since he originally hails from Long Island, NY. He came south to pursue an education at Georgia Tech earning a degree in Industrial Engineering. His previous career included 38 years at Dixie Crystal Sugar Refinery (Formerly Savannah Sugar). After retirement he refused to sit around the house, which really means his wife made him go back to work. Since he loved Savannah so much and enjoyed meeting people he found a 2nd career as a tour guide.

Tara Cummings
A southern name for a southern tour guide. Being raised as a child in Savannah has its perks. I love the rich history of Georgia's first city, and the beautiful mansions that surround our historic district. I take pride in giving tours of our 13th colony, and it's always a pleasure to show off my home town.

Joan Altmeyer
A native Savannahian, Joan spent many of her younger years in the Girl Scouts and graduated from historic Saint Vincent’s Academy in the historic district. While in high school, she worked part time as a runner for shipping companies and freight forwarders, enabling her to explore the hidden "nooks and crannies" of our older buildings on Factor’s Walk.

Joan’s family first settled in Savannah in the late 1790’s. During her tours one will often hear anecdotes from her mother, who grew up in the Historic District.

When asked about why she enjoys being a tour guide, Joan often gives the same reply: "When we are growing up, we are only taught an iota of our nation’s story. One shouldn’t have to wait until college to learn the exciting, scandalous, often gory or sexy stuff that comprises history. I intend to leave guests with a new appreciation of the past and open their eyes to misconceptions about the South."

Her favorite tour to give is the Ghost Tour but be forewarned – she always throws in some mild adult content! Joan also gives an informative and charming History Tour. Either way, you are certain to have a great time!

Nutmeg aka "Meggie"
Like everyone here at Adventures in Savannah I enjoying showing my lovely town to all ages but I generally prefer to do the "Safari's" with the younger crowd. I am particularly adept at pointing out all of the smaller animals on the Safari. I have been known to wear a group out on my walks. Y'all come see me!

For fans of Meggie I'm saddened to report that she passed away on July 20, 2009. She was a lady to the end and visited with her favorite troop the week before her passing. She'll be missed by all who knew her.
